What is it that we actually do?
We specialise in data driven web applications, using Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0, Visual
Studio 2005 (C#), SQL Server 2005 and JavaScript.
Using Adobe Photoshop CS3, JavaScript and CSS we can create rich assessable user
experiences.
Buzzwords & Technical Jargon
Inevitably, in an industry such as ours we are encumbered with buzzwords and other
technical jargon. We’ve tried to avoid such terms in our website wherever possible. However, some
have escaped our net and are explained below.
- Ajax
-
Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax), is a technique used in client-side web development
to communicate with a server without refreshing the whole page. Ajax makes a website
or application faster with less download time.
- Client-Side
-
Client-side is literally the code that runs in the browser (like JavaScript or VBScript).
Client-side code is generally used to enhance the user experience. JavaScript specifically,
is the J in Ajax.
- Data Driven
-
A data driven application is an application that stores and retrieves information.
These applications commonly include Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Knowledge
Management and Stock Control systems.
- Server-Side
-
Server-side on the other hand, is the code that runs on the server (like ASP.NET,
Java or PHP). Server-side code is typically used for data aggregation.
- Web Application
-
The line between a website and a web application is becoming further blurred everyday.
However the idea is; a website infers presenting information in much the same way
that you’d read a magazine or a book (page by page). A web application implies that
while the application looks like a website, it works like an application you’d find
on your desktop (like Outlook or Word).
