2 Tone Comics Re Design
The Client
2 Tone Comics is a shop, based in Hebden Bridge, which specialises in American comics
and collectibles.
The Job
The client commissioned Dogma to provide their business with an online identity,
by means of a logo and a web site. The only stipulation was that both the logo and
the site should follow a comic based theme.
The Logo
The client already had a logo which incorporated “2 Tone Comics” within a speech
bubble. The clients concern was that the logo didn’t stick out and grab your attention.
The final logo we came up with made use of shadow and gradients to make the speech
bubble really pop out. A professional comic font has been used to add a visual
connection between the shop’s brand and the product.
The Design
The design we came up with is based on the composite paper used in the creation
of comic books. Traditionally comic books are sketched out on these larger composite
pages before being printed on the small form factor. This concept gives the site
the idea of a constantly evolving comic book. Because the comic book (site) is in
this state of creation, there is always something new to see.
The Navigation
Visit the site.
We wanted the navigation on the front page to further promote this idea of an evolving
comic book. However, it was important to the client that the site be accessible
to all main browsers without need for plug-ins. The result is a CSS/JavaScript solution.
The navigation panel introduces you to the different areas of the site using a fading
effect, which gracefully degrades to a static image for user’s who do not have a
JavaScript enabled browser.
The Tools
The site was built in Visual Studio 2005. The graphical elements were created in
Photoshop CS3.
